Risk Evaluation with Action Priority (AP)

This instruction will show you how to set up to prioritize the risk with the Action Priority (AP) table with the following AIAG/VDA FMEA Handbook (1st edition).

Note: AP feature is only available in the FMEA Studio Pro edition.

1. Set up a column for Action Priority

If your template already has an AP column, you can ignore this section and go directly to the next section. If not, follow the step by step below:

  1. Insert a new column.
  2. Righ-click on the new column header, then select Column Properties.
  3. Under Column Data Type setting, select Action Priority from the Data Type combo box. (The default data type of a new column is Editable)
  4. In the Severity Column combo box, select a column. This column should hold the severity index value. In the following picture, with the “F. Severity” column, F is the Excel column address, and Severity is the label of the header of the selected column.
  5. In the Occurrence Column combo box, select a column. This column should hold the occurrence index value. In the following picture, with the “J. Occurrence” column, J is the Excel column address, and Occurrence is the label of the header of the selected column.
  6. In the Detection Column combo box, select a column. This column should hold the detection index value. In the following picture, with the “K. Detection” column, K is the Excel column address, and Detection is the label of the header of the selected column.
  7. Click OK to apply and close the Column Properties dialog box.

2. Action Priority setting

FMEA Studio allows you to not only evaluate the risk according to the AIAG/VDA Action Priority table but also to customize the Action Priority table in the way you want.

  1. Select Risk Priority Number from the Risk Evaluation Setting menu from the FMEA Studio tab.
  2. Risk Priority Number Setting dialog box shows up. Click on Reset Conditions. This button will help you to populate all conditions for AP evaluation with adherence to the AIAG/VDA FMEA Handbook 1s edition.
  3. A message box shows up to inform you to confirm the action. Click on Yes. AP Table will be filled with all conditions for AP calculation.
  4. Right here, you can add, remove or modify any condition of this table. These functions allow you completely customize this table to make it fit your requirements.
    • New Condition: Click on this button to add a new condition for the AP table
    • Edit Condition: Select a condition and click on this button to edit an existing condition
    • Remove Condition: Select a condition and click on this button to remove it.
  5. Finally, under High risk color, Medium risk color, and Low risk color, choose the color for the high risk (H) items, the medium risk (M) items, and low risk (L) items.
  6. Click on OK to apply and save the setting.
