2.1 Insert a new item

FMEA or Control Plan is not a simple data table that is a 1-1 relationship between items. For example, one function has one or many failure modes. So how to add more failure modes of a function?

Here is how to do it:

Method 1
  1. Select the given item.
  2. Click Insert Item from FMEA Analysis tab in the Excel’s ribbon
Method 2
  1. Select the given item.
  2. Right-click then select Insert Item from right-click menu
Method 3

This is the fastest way to insert a new item. An item will be inserted under the selected item whenever you press Enter.

  1. In the FMEA Analysis tab, check Enter To Insert.
  2. Select the given item.
  3. Right-click then select Insert Item from right-click menu

Note: Enter To Insert will not work while you are in edit mode.

2.2 Delete an item

When an item is deleted, all its child items are also deleted. For example, when you delete a function, all its failure modes are also deleted. If you want to delete an item, follow these steps.

Method 1
  1. Select the item you want to delete.
  2. Click Delete Item from FMEA Analysis tab
Method 2
  1. Select the item you want to delete.
  2. Right-click then select Delete Item.

Note: Pressing DELETE only deletes the selected item’s content, does not delete the item’s cell.

2.3 Fit content of items

FMEA Analysis will change the row’s height to fit the content of the selected item.

Note: Excel also has an autofit function. However, it only works with single cells but does not work with merged cells.

Follow these steps to fit the content of items

Method 1
  1. Select the items
  2. Click Fit Items from FMEA Analysis tab
Method 2

You can also turn on AutoFit mode. FMEA Analysis FMEA Analysis will automatically change the row height to fit with the updated content.
